PlanePlastics.com Celebrates
1 Year Online
December 12, 2002
On December 12, 2001, www.planeplastics.com was born. From its
first conception in January, 2001, Plane Plastics has continually
made modifications to the website to increase navigability and enhance
the online experience for pilots and FBOs worldwide.
Plane Plastics has raised the bar for e-commerce in the aviation
industry. In just its first month online, the Plane Plastics website
generated 1700 visitors. One year and 1250 orders later, the number
of unique visitors totaled over 3,300 for November, 2002. Today,
the revenue generated from the Plane Plastics site amounts to some
20% of the company's sales.
The focus of the e-commerce team at Plane Plastics is to offer
as much information as possible in a user friendly format. In August,
2002, Plane Plastics released "Version 2" of the website.
The new layout has generated an enormously positive response. The
site's file cabinet tab system allows the visitor to easily navigate
to exactly what they are looking for. The redesign of the site has
included new features such as a wish list, a fully developed customer
service section, accessories,
press releases, customer
testimonials and the information about the Plane
Installers program. The growth of the website has even
inspired the innovation of other technologies designed to assist
with order placement and fulfillment.
The e-commerce team is currently developing an internal software
module, IMS (Integrated Manufacturing Systems) to increase productivity
and decrease lead time on orders received. The IMS module will also
integrate real time inventory so that sales staff and online customers
will be able to identify whether or not a part is in stock. IMS
will eventually lead to 24 hour order shipments! The Plane Plastics
website also led to the development of a CD catalog. The CD catalog
allows customers with a computer who have a slow Internet connection
or no connection to view the catalog in an interactive interface
with live images and pricing information. This was a significant
upgrade from the line drawing paper catalog that was previously
used.
Plane Plastics is taking great strides to assist customers in the
purchase and installation of their new interiors. This website is
just one of many new features that Plane Plastics will be initializing
over the next 12 months. Continue to watch the website along with
this news section to stay up to date on the changes at Plane Plastics.
